Pagan Fire

purpledice
Hello there. My name is Ruthie, I'm 20, and live in CT, USA. I'm asking for a small favor.

I'm working on a personal project on Paganism, collecting people's situations where they felt a connection to the God/Goddess, the universe, nature, etc. I'm hoping to take all of the stories that I collect, and compare, contrast, and study them.

For some background on this, I started this as a project in a Psychology class, but I've decided to continue it. My goal for the future is to write a book or two(or ten) on Paganism, possibly a "textbook". I'm always looking for a more general Paganism book, and can never find one that's right for me, and in the future I really just want to write a book that I'd be looking for myself.

If you could please help me out with this, I'd be very, very, VERY grateful. Comment, I guess, or e-mail me at inkhappy at hotmail.com.

If this is considered trolling, or anything unallowed, feel free to delete it, and I apologize profusely.

Thank you so much.

~Ruth

[I'm thinking in |fierce]
[Singing |whirclicking.]

We shall have a parade tonight of wisps and dreams, flying over our houses like demons unleashed. Dance upon your roof and sing with them, hear their rich and terrible cries and......

We need a parade, children. This world gives us tickertape and popcorn and expects us to be content, but no, we will never find happiness in the feeling of a sharp corn husk between our teeth, poking its way into our brains like some errant virus. We can not paint the world full of colors with such a small and insignificant paintbrush as tickertape allows us. We limit ourselves to accept what we are given, because we are told that to have and to hold are all a person will ever need.

I will never be happy with just that. When I was a tiny, curly-haired sprite, all I thought that the world would ask of me was a kindness here and there, a reel of tickertape every so often to adorn some grand ideal, and the ommission of certain thoughts and sightings beyond the normal way of the world. Did I see fairies in those woods which I played in? Did I turn wolf every night under a moon, in a land far away from machines and concrete? Did I find myself in every flick of minnow, every frantic scrambling of crawfish, under every wet and mud-baptised rock? Was I monkey to the trees, climbing high into their embrace to survey that which my human hands itched to protect? Was I not captain, king, and lord of every vague person placing themselves upon the soil of my childhood wilderland?

Would you even care about the magic I found there?

Ask yourself why this way of living that we wake up to every morning demands that we forgoe imagination. We prize our ability to dream, to fantisize, to reach beyond what we already have, to ignore limits. So why do we live within them?

What will remain of you when you are no longer breathing this sweet, intoxicated air drifting, pushed around over terra firma? Some footprint upon a dirt road? The imprint of your reclining form upon a grassy meadow where you discovered how bright a person's eyes can shine back at you in the timeless starlight? Will we pass something of worth of ourselves on to our children, or will they only know us through a sense of duty to a heritage they only vaguely understand? What are we living for, if not something beyond time, beyond form, beyond all the knowledge and invention this existance has to offer?

This American country says it thrives on the industry of its people. On the backs of its people. Persons whose whole lives our leaders dismiss as simply being another pack animal. Why are they not afraid we will seek more? We are told to have ambition, to have wants and desires centered around having and holding something close. But in a hundred years, what will remain of that possesion but an old and tired memory's remnant. We create industry to give ourselves food, and comfort. We should imagine for the same purpose, for there are too many starving in this world for something they can not identify. They were never told they should or even could hunger for it.

We shall have a holiday, an eternal holiday, a call to living that wakes even the demons and djinns within these hallowed hills cryptic streams. Let those who can not face more than what they have, sit by the road and throw tickertape for us, and impale their soft gums upon sharp corn husks until it stacks one on the other and lances the brain. Let them cheer for us, as we march into something we can not define or outline, but only feel. Let us live, and know that there is more to this time than the daily sound of someone else's dreaming.

I thought I'd give you all a little bit of information about myself. *pokes wishingonstars back* On my mother's side of the family we have two ministers...presbytarian I think...there's some Baptist in there too I'm sure, since I've heard it mentioned. My father's side traces back to a white witch or two...one was my great-grandmother. I have some of her jewelry. I work at a spiritual store in Maryland, I'm a ...well...I'll be a Junior next year in college. INDS major...means I'm making my own...so my diploma will probably read something like ...."Bachelor of the Arts In Linguistics as Culture." I was an English major, because I want to be a writer. In fact, I have a fantasy story I'm working on....its interesting and would apply here because of some of the religious ideas in it's creation but that will take another entry. I'm 20, a Capricorn, I call myself a witch. But only a good witch. I run a meditation workshop, I know tarot cards...I'm more of an empath with the living....except since I've been working at the store this summer, ...and such....I've been feeling more and more things from people that aren't alive anymore.

I believe in life after death.....my philosophy is that is there is a God up there looking down...the Christian God...he's more worried about what I do with my beliefs than who I'm believing in. Hence, I take all of this as a gift...I don't ask for anything in return for it. I had a neighbor and friend who had a guest from Austria come visit her every now and then, and when she was around I would do readings for her. She never told me anything about herself, per my request, and I never asked for payment. So she'd bring me back chocolate that Ms. Hettie would give me after her friend had left the country. I gave them to my mom. She liked them more than me anyway. :) I like to think that any good I do will come back to me. Its like I do a favor for someone, they do one back for me. It works either way.

My personal symbol is the pheonix...it has quite a lot of varied meaning for me. I find a lot of dragon pictures and such, but very little pheonixes....especially ones that are drawn the way I like them. *shrug* But that's ok, it just means I'll have to learn to draw them myself. I like roses...and pentacles...hence my happiness at seeing them in one symbol...the obvious rose pentacle. It's going on my "Book of Shadows" when I make one. And I'll make an icon of it if I find a picture. :)

So yes, you can ask me about my beliefs...in fact, please challenge them. I kinda wanted this to be a place where you could also talk about the things in your life...about your beliefs...and experiences..where no one would judge you or deface your property because of fear of something they don't understand. However, we will not attack other religions..we can talk about them....because there are a lot of similiarities between pagan and non-pagan...but judge not lest ye be judged (that's my mother talking...she's christian and does tarot and meditates...she's found an interesting balance

Hmmm...thought I'd maybe make a post about my beliefs, seeming as how this is kindof what the community is for, ne?

I'm Pagan. Haven't really figured out a different term. I take aspects from so many different Pagan religions, so I suppose one would call me "eclectic." I've just been calling myself a witch.

I believe in karma, and believe that it plays a huge role in everyone's life. I also believe in immortal souls. Yes, everyone does have a mortal soul that dies and progresses onwards, but I think that everyone also posesses immortal souls. Immortal souls aren't really your past lives, but I suppose they can be. My immortal souls carry on lives of their own, and whether it be in dreams, visions, or memories I am able to see parts of their lives. Not many other Pagans believe in immortal souls, but I have met a few here in St. Cloud, who's immortal souls are actually connected to mine in some way, shape, or form.

I also believe in spirit guides and totem animals. I believe in the fae, elves, gnomes, dragons, etc, and believe that everyone in this world carries attributes of one of these creatures. My elements are Earth and Air. More Earth than Air however. My pantheon is not limited to one. I use/borrow dieties from several pantheons including (but not limited to) Native American, African, Celtic, Welsh, English, Lithuanian, Italian (not Roman), Japanese, and Korean. I do believe that I have a patron God and Goddess, but I have yet to figure out who they are.

I consider myself a solitary practitioner in a way, but not fully because I am involved in casting circles and doing rituals with some of my friends and fellow Pagans. I do spells, yes, and love to write my own. I am pretty advanced in the ways of manipulating energy and creating shields. I love making energy balls (and throwing them ^-^). I'm working on being able to see auras.

I'm looking for some friends who may or may not share my own beliefs and whatnot. Just interesting people to talk to. This community was a kick-ass idea, because so many "Pagan" communities out there are centered mainly on one type of Paganism. Yay for dreamingbeyond!

I was looking at some of the books in our library the other day and found one about different religious symbols and what they mean....and the rose pentacle caught my eye. Apparently it's supposed to be one of the stronger symbols for "secrecy"..I've decided I"m going to use it for the cover of my own spellbook.

On to the rules of this community:
